Coordinator’s Message

I would like to welcome back all students to Sirius College. I hope you had a fantastic and a restful holiday during the summer break. My name is SebnemGolbasi and this is my fourth year at Sirius College as a Humanities teacher and second year in coordinating.

This year we have many new students joining the Sirius College family. Welcome to all the new students and their families across the year levels. Joining to a new school can be sometimes tough for students. It is normal to feel nervous as you step into a new environment. Our college is very welcoming, but if you feel you need extra assistance in settling to the school you can ask for help from our counsellor and myself.

First few weeks of this term has flown past so quickly. It has been an interesting and fun filled busy time with the many learning opportunities and experiences.

As you may know, the Sirius College uniform is in a transition process. This means that students are required to wear the full new uniform in 2017. Students must be in full school uniform during school day. Consequences apply to students who repeatedly break the school rules. It has been brought to my attention that some of our new students are not aware of our ‘no jewellery’ policy. Students are only allowed to wear wrist watch and one earring to each ear lobe. Female students also required to wear socks that are knee high. I suggest to all our new students to read the student handbook which is available in our website.

Lateness to school on a regular basis has a negative effect on student’s learning; especially, when they are missing the same subject regularly. This will create knowledge gap which will reflect to their assessments. Lessons begin at 9.00am sharp every day. Lateness also creates disruptions to the class they participate and interfere others learning time. Students who are late to class in the morning more than 5 times in a term will be issued an official warning in the online system. Please endeavour to encourage your daughters and sons to be on time so that they get the most out of their education.

I wish everyone a great success for the rest of the term.

Regards,

SebnemGolbasi
